Film Titles/ Credits - The Shining
We looked at some film openings to get an idea of the order in which the titles and credits come. The first film we looked at was a horror (like our own), The Shining.
The order in which the credits come in are;
The director
Two main actors
Name of film
Featuring
The main actors are put towards the beginning of this order as they are the ones who are most likely to be well known and make people interested in watching the film.
Film Title/Credits - Psycho 1960 Intro
Another film opening i looked at was Psycho, the order in which the credits appeared was different.
Director
Film Name
Three Main Actors
Co-Starring
The film name may be second on list here as the title may leave enigma as to what the film will be about, it will leave you thinking whilst the other credits are rolling.
Job Roles In Films
The film producers,
- decide which projects to produce, or creating programme ideas themselves
- reading scripts
- raising finance for projects
- assessing what resources will be needed
- planning the schedule
- hiring all the necessary technical resources and support services
- recruiting key production staff and crew
- editing scripts
- managing cash flow
- making sure that the entire production stays on schedule and within budget.
In our film Will is the producer as he is well organsied and very motivated to succeed in this subject, he is most likely to make a reliable producer.
The Directors
- Visualise the script and turn it into a movie.
- They are in charge of all the creative scenes.
Camera Operator
- Choose suitable camera lenses
- They must be creative
- assembling, preparing and setting up equipment prior to filming
- offering advice on how best to shoot a scene, explaining the visual impact created by particular shots
In our group I am in charge of the camera work as I did well using the camera and operating it in the preliminary task.
Sound Operator
- assembling and operating the necessary equipment
- recording sound onto digital audio tape or hard disk recorders
- maintaining and repairing sound equipment.
Sophie is the sound operator as she has good knowledge of music and will choose suitable backing music for our film opening.
BBFC - How I would classify our film
BBFC
The BBFC are the 'British board of film clasification' who are an independant, non- governmental body funded through the fees it charges to those who submit films and video through clasification.
What do the BBFC take ito consideration?
What do the BBFC take ito consideration?
- Discrimination against sex and race
- Drug abuse
- Horror
- Imitable behaviour
- Language
- Nudity
- Sex
- Theme
- Violence
Key to all decisions is the context these things are presented in. So graphic violence which is glamorised will be classified much stricter than fairly light violence which is presented in a comical or negative manner.
Some examples that the BBFC have banned in the uk because they are of a worse standard of 18.
- Human centipeed 2 the full sequence.
- Grotesc because it had to much level of sexual tortue.
This is an example of the 18 symbol the BBFC would have on the film ratings.

Location
We have had to change our location for the two minute opening at last minute as the building we were going to use has become unavailable.
So the location we are now going to use is Sheffield manor in Market rasen in the as it has a dark and dingy cellar there which would set the mysterious horror theme reasonably well.
Also we are having pictures taken for the old memories at these following locations:

Our final synopsis
The film opens with a man (Dave Nickles) taking a woman and after the title it goes back in time to show why the man is doing this to the woman he has found. Dave walks into his apartment one night to find his girlfriend (Lily Fairfield) cheating on him with what he thought was a good friend. So he plans revenge on the two of them. Whilst shopping at the local supermarket he sees a woman whom resembles the woman he once loved, Lily. He starts talking to her and arranges a ren de vous with her. So they meet and become close friends but she is letting herself in for more than she can handle. Dave sees a few girls that remind him of the woman he was once heart taken for and they too cant handle whats lurking around the corner. Towards the end there is the woman locked up in a stingy room and she has two limp dead bodies near her. Dave walks in and shuts her up. Soon after we see him walking into another room and lily is locked away within with the good friend and new lover, Ben. As Dave enters to the room holding Lily and Ben captive, Lily stabs Dave in the lungs and leaves the glass in the lung pulsing. Whilst having words with the vulnerable Dave, Lily escapes. She manages to do this as Ben sacrificed himself by allowing Lily to pull the rope tight on him and crush his lungs and loosen the rope to free herself. A true soulmate. s she runs off she says a few lastwords and pulls the glass from the lungs causing lung failure and a gross scene of blood.

Target audience
To reach our target audience or to advertise our film we would put it on adverts later at night as our main target audience are around the age of 35 therefore are most likely to to be up later. It could be advertised in adverts between programmes such as true blood as that has a sense of horror ans violence too so people we target are most likely to also be watching that.

The blurb
Our blurb for our film idea:
Join Dave Nickles through his heart weakening story. As the woman he once loved tips him over the edge. He cannot cope with the sight of his past love and certainly, not anyone who resembles her. So he goes to desperate measures to make sure 'they' are gone...

The Film Opening We Are Doing
Genre: Horror
Sub-Genre: psychological horror, thriller
Story line: Dave nichels has his heart broken by the woman of his dreams whom he loved a great deal which tips him over the edge.He cannot stand the sight of the woman he once loved or anybody who even slightly resembles her, so therefore goes to desperate measures to ensure that she is gone.
The two minute opening: first 20/30 seconds credits role whilst pictures of the couple role down the screen, however the womans face in these pictures is scratched out. Dave then knocks on the door and lilly answers, he knocks her out. next we see the camera blurred and blinking/ flashing as if to show the woman waking up in a strange room full of bodies!! As lilly screams for help the title appears. a short clip is briefly shown after the titles of a man walking through the door.. the screen then abruptly goes blank.
Our target audience is both genders over the age of 15.

Also the index by quarter the best selling film is paranormal 3 so the trend is that the best selling film this year so far is horror, so I think that horror is a good genre to be doing. As the table shows the film by quarter to date shows that the best selling film is paranormal activity 3 a horror.
Also the index by quarter the best selling film is paranormal 3 so the trend is that the best selling film this year so far is horror, so I think that horror is a good genre to be doing. This could suggest that film viewers are more passive and open to watching more horror films this year which would be good for our film.

Audience Research
After analysing the data on film audiences from the UK film council, it is clear that there is a potentially huge market for us to target. Almost one third of cinema goers (32%). Then there was 15% of cinema goers saying that horror was their favourite genre.
Looking at the demographic data, it appears that we should be mainly be aiming our new film at females below the age of 35, where 44% of the public enjoy watching horror films. One third of males for over 35 and under 35 enjoy watching them to, whereas females over 35, only 22% enjoy watching them. So our main audiences is females under 35 and males over the age of 16. These are some examples from the UK film council website of target audiences.

Will
Wills the one who will be best putting all the edits and cuts together on the computer and will be confident acting. He's willing to use his own time to create our film.
Me
Im organised therefore quite handy in the group when filming starts as ill remember props and story boards etc. I came up with the paranoid boyfriend idea which sophie and will expanded on and turned into our film plot. I dont want to feature in the film.
Sophie
The one sir calls 'the dark one' in the group.
Sophie will be featuring in our film and wants to be the murderer. Shes creative and imaginative, coming up with a lot of the dark ideas... And can only come up with her crazy ideas listening to heavy metal music!

MRDEA AS1011 Rejected, Analysis
Rejected-Analysis
This film opening meetsd most of the film opening conventions which is why i chose it.
It starts by subtly having the producer and director names on the screen, which are wiped away by characters which gives a nice smooth effect.
It starts off with slow music which gives a sense of mystery but then as the main character is shown the music gets slightly faster and jumpier, which would make the viewer think that the film is going to be perhaps fast paced and abnormal.
The type of character used is also the director which makes them the viewpoint character meaning the story is told through their own eyes, i like this effect within this film opening as it helps you to sympathise with the character more as its direct from them.
The dialogue keeps mentioning 'I thought i would be able to control it..' this leaves a sense of enigma as the viewer would want to know what it is causing the problem and what needs controlling.
There is also an introduction to the main character, the main character is shown at many angles, some with her walking away from the camera. The most effective one i think is where Kate is shot in low angle as this immediately makes the viewer think that she is the less superior character and more vulnerable than the rest.
Towards the end there is repitition on the abuse that the amin character is recieving, this adds emphasis as to th the pain and neglect she is having to live with which again helps the viewer symphasise with her.
The main title is shown at the end so that it has a strong impact and sticks in your mind.

The Three Types
There are three main types of horror...
Supernatural movies are those dealing with monsters coming from the supernatural such as zombies, vampires, ghosts, little demons or werewolves, creatures coming from an endless psychic reaction to the mysteries and unexplained features of the earth
Scientific movies, on the other side, are those starring mad scientists who create mutants, monsters destroying the world or ending up saving it.
Naturalist horror movies are those which do not have supernatural creatures or phenomena, just simple unexpected elements and situations which induce fear; movies which could theoretically come true in each of our lives, in extremely undesirable and unfortunate conditions and situations.

Early Ideas
Sophie, will and I are thinking of doing a horror film.
There have been a few problems with fitting all our ideas into the alloted two minute time slots.
The ideas so far have came to a paranoid ex boyfriend practically stalking his old girlfriend and her new lover.
